WE FEAST LONDON - THE REVIEW

Arrive at Angel. Freezing, starving & looking forward to a beverage. Adam rocks up & we walk along & meet the rest of the guys at the sainsbury local opposite Theberton Street at around 7pm, got cash back (as I had been informed it would be cash only evening!) & walked up to Studd Street, to be welcomed warmly at the ticket entrance by smiles from the SME London team. We gave our tickets & walked through, taking in the outstanding choice of venue (The former North London mail sorting office) from the outside & looking forward to seeing what they had managed to do with the inside.

On heading in, walking up the stairs to the front entrance a very festive 'FEAST' was placed stratigically above the walk way & really set the tone.

As soon as you walked through the doorway, the first thing you notice was the devine smells that were surrounding you from all angles. Looking around the place was packed & a great atmosphere filled the air.

We decided to head to the bar first & grab a drink to walk around all the stalls with, considering we were in a warehouse that had been unused for some time, it looked like any normal sylish London bar. The only difference being the choice of drinks, there was some awesome choices. Me & Miller opted for the Port & Plum Punch, Adam went for the Pinot Noir & Andy & Mike went for the Camden Pale (Bottled local ale). I was pleasantly surprised that the drinks were so reasonably priced & at the bar you could infact pay by card (what a bonus). We debated what had been put in the punch Miller & I were drinking after finishing one glass & feeling a little tipsy (Please note, I hadn't had lunch!) on asking one of the guys behind the bar what was in the punch he informed me it was a mixture of Port, Brandy & a real plum (and he wasn't joking!) needless to say, this was my tipple for the rest of the evening.

So, after getting our drinks & working out our barings we began our wander of the stalls & the food on offer .... Every stall had something different, all smelling absolutely delightful.

We chose several different foods to try, the boys first had a 'spicy' onion bhaji from the Delhi Grill which they seemed to really enjoy. This got the taste buds going & everyone was really looking forward to trying some more of the delights that were on offer. I had been recommended a couple of the stalls but really wated to just try whatever I felt looked worth a try, just gutted I didn't have enough room to try a little of everything. The first stall that I had something on was Big Apple Hot Dogs & as it would happen, this was infact one of the recommendations & it did not fail to please, I had the 'Big Frank', as did Adam. We both devoured it with little hesitation & agreed at the fact it probably was the best hot dog we had ever had. After eating this heafty hot dog there was little chance I could eat anything else just yet. There was a live band that had been playing as we were doing our wander that were just finishing up & a new band preparing to come up, we decided to enjoy the live music (with punch in hand!)

After the first band had finished up, the next band began settting up, they were called The Robbie Boyd Band. As soon as they started playing a bigger crowd of people started to surround the stage area where they were playing. We ended up dancing & singing (trying to pick up the words as I went along) for the rest of the evening, they were AWESOME, so much so that Adam bought me one of their CD's... If you are a fan of 'Mumford & sons' or a band similar to that, you are going to LOVE these guys, check them out.

After dancing for a while, I soon decided, as did the others that we could probably try some more of the food out. I knew exactly what I wanted & couldn't wait to try it, so round I walked to the Pizza Pilgrims stall, where there was a dark-green Piaggio Ape parked in the spot that had been allocated to them, In the back, rather than the shabby tools of a Roman handyman, it has a custom-built pizza oven in which James, his brother Thom and their colleague Louis Lillywhite cook the best pizzas in. We ordered a spicy sausage pizza, the base was made in front of us, the ingeredients stratigically placed & then a lazer used to test if the van oven was at the right tempreature. They placed the pizza's in to the oven in the back of the van & waited for literally 1 min & our pizza was ready. It was cut in to four slices & served to us. The first mouthful really made me realise why these guys were 'special'.... it was mouth wateringly delicious, I could have eaten a whole one to myself (greedy little piglet!). I cannot wait to go visit their stall in Soho's Berwick Street market. I recommend anyone in that area go & get a pizza from these guys it was scrumptious & worth every penny of the £6 you pay per pizza .... Officially my favourite stall of the night!!

We all had a fantastic night at the event & will be attending the next one for sure. Thank you to SME London for throwing such a fantastic bash & for a culinary experience that only biggest foodies could really appreciate. We can't wait for the next one....

My favourite festive jumpers

CHRISTMAS JUMPERS; MY FAVOURITE SELECTION

So, I know I have mentioned Christmas jumpers in a previous post but I have joined the festive jumper trend that is going around & on my search for the perfect most fitting festive jumper, I realised just how many there were on the market to chose from.

I spent hours (literally) looking for one, as I just couldn't decide, I kept seeing another that I liked and another and another. Not all of us have the money to don a Christmas wadrobe full of these beauts, so I decided to help the girls out by giving them a selection of some of the best I found, in both quality & price. Grab yourself a festive jumper, you know you want to.

Winter & Christmas fun in Kent - Lapland UK

Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree

Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree Light Switch On

Every year Trafalgar Square sprouts a wonderfully large Christmas Tree (Did you know? - The tree is a gift each year from the people of Norway as a thank you for support and friendship during World War Two)

This is a focus of the Christmas season in central London. Always a superb, giant pine tree, the Christmas Tree in Trafalgar Square sports a really wonderful Christmas light display.

The lights on the Christmas Tree will be turned on Thursday 6th December at 6.30pm (I'm gutted to be missing it this year, due to 'We Feast' - my last blog post) The lights remain on from midday until midnight every day throughout the Christmas season, so I will be making my way down to see it one evening in the coming weeks.

The ceremony of turning on the lights is preceded by a carol service at St Martin-in-the-Fields. The tree itself remains there, of course, until Twelfth Night - 6th January 2013.

The enormous tree is a popular seasonal tourist attraction, particularly in the fortnight leading up to Christmas, when each evening from Tuesday 11 December to Sunday 23 December 2012, between 5pm and 9pm, a different choir gathers there to sing carols and raise money for a range of voluntary or charitable organisations.

Christmas Markets

Christmas Markets

In the UK, Christmas markets are sometimes promoted as Christmas Fairs, Christmas Fayres, Continental or Traditional Christmas Markets and in more general terms. So, what’s in a name? Can you tell what a market will be like, judging by its title? When a Christmas market is described as Continental or Traditional, you can be fairly sure that the stalls will be wooden chalets, selling a range of traditional toys, gifts and food, and there might be an ice rink and some European traders as well. The others are not so easy to “pigeonhole”. Christmas Fairs and Fayres could have a traditional feel, but some may lack the olde-worlde charm that you might expect. We’ve provided some listings below to get you started and we hope that you enjoy your visit to a Christmas fair / market (!) this year, no matter what it’s called!
