Christmas Markets
In the UK, Christmas markets are sometimes promoted as Christmas
Fairs, Christmas Fayres, Continental or Traditional Christmas Markets and in
more general terms. So, what’s in a name? Can you tell what a market will be
like, judging by its title? When a Christmas market is described as Continental
or Traditional, you can be fairly sure that the stalls will be wooden chalets,
selling a range of traditional toys, gifts and food, and there might be an ice
rink and some European traders as well. The others are not so easy to
“pigeonhole”. Christmas Fairs and Fayres could have a traditional feel, but
some may lack the olde-worlde charm that you might expect. We’ve provided some
listings below to get you started and we hope that you enjoy your visit to a
Christmas fair / market (!) this year, no matter what it’s called!
